Harrington secures victory in Hoag tournament with impressive birdie-birdie finish after overcoming double bogey

Harrington, a 52-year-old Irishman, emerged victorious at the Hoag Classic on Sunday at the Newport Beach Country Club. He secured his seventh PGA Tour Champions win despite a double bogey on the par-4 16th hole. However, he showcased his resilience by sinking crucial birdies on the final two holes. With a downhill 15-footer on the par-3 17th and an 8-footer on the par-5 18th, Harrington finished at 14-under 199 for a one-stroke victory over Thongchai Jaidee.

Jaidee, hailing from Thailand, also put up a strong performance with a final round of 69, finishing just shy of Harrington. Miguel Angel Jimenez, the Spanish golfer who was part of the final group with Harrington and Jaidee, finished two strokes behind with a score of 68. Stephen Ames secured fourth place at 11 under after shooting a 67. Jerry Kelly and K.J. Choi were tied at 10 under after rounds of 67 and 68 respectively, while Steve Stricker finished one stroke behind them with a score of 70.
