Amazon discontinues use of Just Walk Out technology in Fresh stores

Amazon has announced that it will remove its cashierless “Just Walk Out” technology from its Fresh grocery stores in the US. The technology, which was launched in 2018 and uses sensors, cameras, and AI to track customers’ selected items and automatically charge them through an app, will be replaced by smart shopping carts.

These shopping carts will allow customers to scan items as they shop and make automatic payments, providing a seamless shopping experience for customers. While the Just Walk Out technology will no longer be used in Fresh stores, it will continue to be present in Amazon Go stores and available for use by other retailers.

Amazon’s decision to remove the Just Walk Out technology from Fresh stores represents a shift in their approach to cashierless technology. By utilizing smart shopping carts instead, the company aims to provide a more streamlined shopping experience for customers while still offering the convenience of technology-driven solutions.
