Bayer Supports Hawaiian Education: Maui Now Reports on 10 Schools Receiving Grants

On November 19, 2023 at 5:00 PM HST, Hawaiian public schools were honored with $9,300 in grants from the Bayer Fund- Hawaii Science Education Grant. A total of 10 grants were given to the following recipients: Ewa Makai Middle School, H.P. Baldwin High School, ʻĪao School, ʻIlima Intermediate School, Kaimukī Middle School, Kīhei Charter School, Lahaina Intermediate School, Lahainaluna High School, McKinley High School.

The funds awarded are designed to support STEM-related activities such as a macro propagation project and a drone building program. Additionally, hydroponics projects and community gardens have been funded as well as the purchase of equipment and supplies for earth science classes.

The Bayer Fund grant program was established in 2005 with the goal of providing Hawaiian public schools with additional tools and resources to enhance science education. The initiative aims to inspire students to pursue careers in science in the future.

The grant program is available twice a year and is open to public schools on Oahu, Maui and Molokai where Bayer employees live and work. Public schools serving students from intermediate grades through college for educational purposes related to science are eligible to apply for the grant.
