Is There Alien Life in the Solar System? – The Science Quiz

Io, the Jovian moon known for its geological activity, is the most active planetary body in the Solar System. The constant activity on this moon makes it unlikely for life to exist here, but not impossible. The warmth generated by its geological processes could potentially support life.

Similar to Io, Titan, a moon of Saturn, also has a cycle of liquid on its surface. However, unlike water on Earth, Titan’s liquid is made of hydrocarbons. This raises the possibility of hosting life on this moon.

On the other hand, Triton, a moon of Neptune, is unique in that it rotates in the opposite direction to its host planet. Scientists believe that the heat generated by radioactive decay keeps Triton’s mantle in a liquid state and may provide conditions for life to exist.

Enceladus, a moon of Saturn, may contain an underground water ocean and ejects plumes of salt water and organic molecules from its subsurface into space. These signs hint at the possibility of life on Enceladus.

The Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer (JUCE) spacecraft launched by NASA in 2023 will reach Jupiter in 2031 to study Ganymede, Callisto and Europa for signs of life. This mission aims to uncover more about the potential for life on these icy moons of Jupiter.
