New basketball postseason tournament collaboration announced by Fox and AEG

The NCAA tournament is not the only postseason basketball tournament for college athletes anymore. Fox Sports and AEG have joined forces to launch a new competition called the College Basketball Crown, set to take place in Las Vegas from March 31 to April 6, 2025. This tournament will feature 16 teams playing games at the MGM Grand Garden Arena and T-Mobile Arena, both of which have hosted college basketball games before, including the Pac-12 tournaments.

The Big Ten, Big 12, and Big East conferences will each have two automatic entries in the College Basketball Crown. However, the remaining teams will be selected by a committee. Fox Sports executive vice president Jordan Bazant expressed excitement about providing more opportunities for student-athletes to compete in high-quality postseason college hoops.

The NIT has traditionally been seen as a secondary tournament to the NCAA tournament but is anticipated to be the primary competitor to it now that it has modified its selection process to include more teams from power six conferences. However, some schools declined invitations to participate in this season’s NIT despite its recent changes. The NIT previously held significant prestige as one of the most prestigious major postseason tournaments in college basketball before moving from Madison Square Garden to Las Vegas last year and being held in Indianapolis this year.

The College Basketball Crown aims to provide an exciting and competitive alternative for teams that do not make it into the NCAA tournament while enhancing the postseason college basketball experience for players and fans alike.
