Bridging the Gap: Providing STEM Scholarships to Underrepresented Students through Summer Science Splash Camp

The Summer Science Splash Camp offers scholarships to campers from low-income families, with the amount of the scholarship determined based on financial need. Currently, 32 families are benefiting from scholarship assistance, which accounts for about one-third of all campers. The average partial scholarship amount for 2024 is $480, which covers more than half of the total cost of the camp, which is $799.

Kristen Rynerson, conference and pre-college coordinator at Eckerd College, expressed excitement about the opportunity to offer scholarships to campers. She stated that it was crucial to bring STEM summer programming to marginalized students who would likely not have had the opportunity otherwise. Community Foundation Tampa Bay serves as a philanthropic partner, connector, and adviser to support initiatives like the scholarship program for the Summer Science Splash Camp.
