After three years at the helm of Centra Health in Lynchburg, CEO Amy Carrier has stepped down. The healthcare system has announced new leadership with interim CEO Richard Tugman taking over as the search for a permanent leader begins.
Thomas Nygaard, chairman of Centra’s board of directors, stated that the decision for a change in leadership was made through respectful discussions with Carrier. He emphasized the dynamic nature of the healthcare industry and how leadership changes are more frequent now than in the past.
Despite the transition in leadership, all ongoing projects in Centra’s modernization plan will continue as planned. This includes a behavioral health and rehabilitation hospital and a new medical office building. The construction of a new patient care tower to address the need for a larger and updated emergency room is also set to begin under Tugman’s leadership.
Tugman previously served as interim CEO in 2021 and is seen as the right person to lead Centra forward. With his experience and expertise, he will be able to take over seamlessly during this time of transition. The search for a permanent CEO is currently underway, but there is no specific timeline in place yet.
Centra Health remains committed to providing quality care and expanding its services for the Lynchburg community during this period of change. As they look towards their future, they are confident that Tugman will be able to guide them through any challenges that may arise along the way.
