Chinese Teenager Pan Zhanle Smashes the 100m Freestyle World Record at World Championships

In Doha, China’s Pan Zhanle shattered the world record in the 100 meter freestyle with a stunning time of 46.58 seconds. This feat surpassed the previous record held by Michael Phelps, who had set it at 47.63 seconds. Pan, who is only 19 years old, spoke to reporters about his accomplishment, saying that he was shocked by his own performance and that breaking the world record came naturally. He added that his goal now is to swim even faster in future competitions.

In addition to breaking the world record, Pan also helped China win gold in the 4x100m relay alongside three other teammates. Italy and the US took silver and bronze respectively.

Another impressive achievement for China at these World Championships was when Qin Haiyan broke the current 200m breaststroke record with a time of 2:13.72 seconds.
