Chiefs sign Clyde Edwards-Helaire to one-year contract

Clyde Edwards-Helaire has decided to stay with the Kansas City Chiefs for the 2024 season, after agreeing to a one-year deal. Despite declining his fifth-year option last spring, Edwards-Helaire had an impressive performance in Super Bowl LVIII, tallying 411 yards from scrimmage on 87 touches.

In his 48 games with 32 starts, Edwards-Helaire has accumulated 1,845 rushing yards with 12 rushing touchdowns. Additionally, he has caught 89 passes for 765 yards and seven TDs. Despite falling down the depth chart in 2022 due to injuries and Isiah Pacheco’s strong performance, Edwards-Helaire still managed to make a significant impact on the team’s success.

Kansas City also had running back J.K. Dobbins in for a visit on Tuesday. While it is uncertain whether the signing of Edwards-Helaire will impact their pursuit of Dobbins, who recently met with the Chargers as well, it is clear that the Chiefs are committed to maintaining a strong running game in the future.
