Curiosity’s Scientific Expedition Resumes on Sol 1398 with New Target and Drive

Curiosity is back on the move on Sol 1398 after a brief hiatus to address a safe mode anomaly. The day’s plan includes a series of scientific observations and a drive to a new location.

The day begins with ChemCam and Mastcam observations of the target “Luanda” to study the composition of the local bedrock. Mastcam will also take images of blocky deposits and stratification within the Murray formation. After these scientific observations, Curiosity will drive approximately 76 meters and take post-drive images for future targeting.

In the afternoon, there will be another round of observations using Navcam and Mastcam to study the atmosphere. Overnight, Curiosity will conduct the final CheMin analysis of the Oudam drill sample. In addition to these tasks, some diagnostics for the flight software are also included in the plan. Despite these additional tasks, the team is excited to be back on the road and exploring new terrain.
