The investigation into the gruesome combine harvester accident that occurred in Hohen Luckow on August 19, 2023, is currently being handled by the public prosecutor’s office. The focus of the investigation is to determine whether any of the three individuals present at the time of the accident can be held responsible for a criminal breach of duty. The investigation is still ongoing, with reports and interviews from the accident victim, his colleague, and the young woman who was operating the combine harvester being evaluated.
The accident happened while the farmer and his two colleagues were harvesting together in a field. A blockage occurred in the grain hopper of the combine harvester, prompting them to keep running it despite safety concerns. The young woman in charge remained seated while ignoring safety mechanisms and pulling her legs into a screw conveyor that caused amputation.
Four months later, police were finally able to interview the victim who confirmed what had happened but opted not to press charges. Fortunately, quick thinking from one of his colleagues prevented any further harm by stopping the machine before it could cause any more damage or injuries.
Afterwards, an emergency operation was conducted by a top surgeon and his team who successfully amputated both legs to save their patient’s life. As authorities work to determine how this terrible incident occurred and prevent similar ones from happening again in future.
