In 2023, Duluth was a popular destination for Great Lakes cruises, with four ships bringing over 4,000 passengers to the city. This contributed nearly $600,000 in direct spending to the city, supporting a variety of businesses including shops, restaurants, transportation providers, tour operators and small businesses in Duluth and other Great Lakes ports.
The influx of visitors was noted by Dan Hartman, Executive Director of the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center who expressed enthusiasm about the economic impact of these cruises. Anna Tanski, Tourism Director of Cruise the Great Lakes also highlighted the organization’s commitment to promoting the unique cruising experiences available in the region. She emphasized that Great Lakes cruises are becoming increasingly popular as a destination.
Cruise the Great Lakes serves as a platform for various stakeholders such as states, provinces, cruise lines, ports, conventions, visitors bureaus, chambers of commerce and associations to collaborate towards common goals.
