Galloway, N.J. — Practically 400 K-12 teachers across South Jersey have been introduced to laptop science
through the previous college year via the establishment of a regional hub by the Educational
Technologies Instruction Center (ETTC) at Stockton University.
The center will continue to train teachers this year thanks to a current $444,445 grant
from the state, stated Patty Weeks, the director of the Southern Regional Institute and ETTC at Stockton.
“Teachers discover Unplugged Computer system Science, Physical Computing, Robotics, Artificial
Intelligence and the new student studying requirements for laptop science in New Jersey,”
Weeks stated. “The teachers like it for the reason that they understand that it is not just about coding.
It is about teaching their students to 1st take into account a dilemma and then to come across a
resolution. It is not generally about writing a line of laptop code.”
The hub was made final year with an initial $333,313 state grant to fulfill a mandate
by Gov. Phil Murphy in 2020 to “expand access to higher-top quality, requirements-primarily based laptop
science education for all New Jersey K to 12 students.” Starting with the 2022-23
college year, all students had to have access to laptop science coursework, which
made the need to have for a network of educators across the area.
It is about teaching their students to 1st take into account a dilemma and then to come across a
resolution. It is not generally about writing a line of laptop code.”

share concepts about teaching and studying laptop science across all grades and content material
regions.
Weeks stated the totally free workshops are open to any teacher from any district, but the hub
has also partnered with 3 distinct districts this year to obtain further on-website
help through the grant period — Egg Harbor Township, Folsom Township and the Higher
Egg Harbor Regional Higher College District.
“In today’s digital age, laptop science has come to be an important ability for absolutely everyone.
Computer system science teaches students how to strategy challenges logically and systematically,”
Weeks stated, “and it can also be exciting to create and style new options to each day
challenges.”
