Solar Eclipse Viewing Event Hosted at Cox Science Center

On Monday, April 8 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Cox Science Center and its Marmot Observatory will host a solar eclipse viewing event that is open to the public. Although South Florida won’t be able to see the totality of the eclipse, guests can still catch a glimpse of the partial eclipse through the observatory’s 10-foot refracting telescope with solar filters. This telescope is unique in that it is the largest publicly available telescope in South Florida, providing an opportunity for guests to view the eclipse without needing solar glasses.

Experts from the Marmot Observatory will be present at the event to answer any questions related to space. The eclipse is set to begin at 1:48 p.m., reach its maximum at 3:30 p.m., and end at 4:15 p.m. A view through the telescope is included with a general admission ticket, and solar viewing glasses are available on a first-come, first-served basis for those who want them.

If you are unable to attend the event at the Cox Science Center, several Palm Beach County library branches will be giving away solar glasses for viewing the eclipse on April 8th during their designated hours of operation. For more information about this event or how you can obtain free solar glasses, please visit coxsciencecenter.org/event/solar-eclipse-viewing or contact your local library branch directly for details on availability and distribution times of these items.

The Cox Science Center and its Marmot Observatory invite everyone in South Florida to come out and experience this historic event!
