In the heart of Stockton, a unique facility is training the next generation for lucrative careers in the field of electron microscopy. Delta College recently showcased its Eyes of Science display during a free open house, providing a glimpse into the world of this powerful technology.
Jose Jimenez, an instructor at Delta College’s electron microscopy program, explained that they are able to observe the cell structure of atoms and explore the nanoworld through mentored microscopes provided by Hitachi. The program has seen great success in recent years and has become a crucial tool in various scientific fields such as IC chips, circuit boards, and medical diagnostics.
The Eyes of Science have played a significant role in shaping the careers of many students like Logan Gorham, who never expected to find their passion in microscopy. With 20 enrolled students this semester, the program boasts a diverse group of individuals from the local community. For students like Cassidy Altimari, the proximity and accessibility of the program have been a stroke of luck. The program’s job placement rates and diverse opportunities offered in fields such as biological sciences, pharmaceuticals, and material sciences make it an attractive choice for aspiring scientists.
Many graduates have secured jobs soon after completing the program, with some already lined up to work in cutting-edge fields like electric batteries at QuantumScape in San Jose. The success of the program has led to plans for expansion on campus to accommodate more students. Rachaellien Trinh, the program director, aims to fill more seats and change the educational landscape at Delta College. Graduates of the program have seen a significant increase in their earnings, reflecting
