The CEO of Fincantieri, Pierroberto Folgiero, unveiled a significant project at the Fratelli d’Italia “Italy changes Europe” conference in Pescara. The plan involves creating Italian technology in collaboration with small, medium, and large companies. The focus will be on the Mediterranean region, both geopolitically and in terms of energy and other sectors related to defense.
According to Folgiero, Italy’s proximity to the Mediterranean makes it a crucial region geopolitically. He highlighted the potential for economic and technological growth in the region due to its vast underwater infrastructure such as numerous submarine cables, telecommunication lines, and gas pipelines. Additionally, mining activities are present in the area. Fincantieri plans to produce smaller submarines and drones ranging from three to nine meters that would be utilized by the Italian Navy to safeguard critical infrastructures in the Mediterranean region.
The potential for this project is enormous according to Folgiero who described it as a significant undertaking with great potential for success.
