Free Summer Access: Pittsburgh’s Top Attractions Offering over 100,000 Tickets for a Staycation on a Budget

This summer, Pittsburgh’s popular attractions including the zoo, Carnegie Museum of Natural History, National Aviary, and Phipps Conservatory will be offering over 100,000 free tickets. The Allegheny Regional Asset District (RAD) announced that from May to August, more than a dozen regional assets will have dates for free admission. All individuals need is an Allegheny County library card and a reservation to access the free admission.

Last August, several museums in Pittsburgh were open free of charge every operating day due to RAD’s Summer Staycation program. These museums include the Andy Warhol Museum, Children’s Museum, and Heinz History Center. Feedback was received from many individuals who mentioned they would not have been able to afford to visit otherwise. RAD Board Chair Dan Griffin emphasized that regional assets should give back to taxpayers who fund these projects. The free admission dates will be available on RADPass.org starting May 1st with more offers being added throughout the summer. It is requested that individuals be considerate neighbors by canceling reservations if they can’t make it so that someone else can take advantage of the opportunity.

The expanded Summer Staycation program from RAD aims to make these popular attractions accessible to everyone in the community without breaking their bank account. With more than a dozen regional assets participating in this program and no traditional RAD Day this year, visitors can now enjoy free admission on specific dates throughout the summer months instead of just one day in September as usual. By offering free admission dates on their website (RADPass.org), visitors can easily check which museum or attraction has a free day coming up and reserve their spot accordingly – all they need is an Allegheny County library card!
