Miami University graduate VaLandria Smith-Lash has followed her passion for creating a skin care solution to launch her own business, Coarse Culture. Her mother’s diagnosis with Lupus inspired her to create a remedy using shea butter and oils, which eventually evolved into a full-time career.
Smith-Lash started her business from home and eventually turned it into a successful venture that is now the first start-up in the new innovation college at Miami University. The university president, Gregory Crawford, praised Smith-Lash as a pioneer of what he hopes will become a trend among students. He plans to support additional start-ups in the coming year by offering interns and investment opportunities.
Smith-Lash expressed gratitude for the opportunity to turn her passion into a thriving business while emphasizing the importance of community and collaboration in her entrepreneurial journey. Her story serves as an inspiration for future students looking to make a difference through innovative ventures.
