Galileo Comes to Metro Detroit: Cranbrook Institute of Science Presents Stellar Exhibit – LittleGuide Detroit

Discover how Galileo, the “father” of observational astronomy, physics, and the scientific method, shaped modern day science. Cranbrook Institute of Science’s latest traveling exhibition, Galileo: Scientist, Astronomer, Visionary, offers an intriguing look into his life’s work from four centuries ago and its impact on our modern world and space travel today.

The interactive exhibition engages visitors with experiments that encourage STEAM exploration. One focus is Galileo’s telescope, which he used systematically to observe celestial objects like the Moon and document his discoveries. Guests can also explore Galileo’s investigations of gravity using inclined planes and geometry, as well as his studies of motion through the pendulum. The exhibition also explores various scientific tools, including levers, scales, gears, and pulleys.

The Galileo exhibit will be hosted at Cranbrook Institute of Science from October 1st to June 2nd. While exploring the museum, visitors can also enjoy the Planetarium, which offers shows for $5 each, including a Sesame Street themed show for kids.

Mark your calendars for the Partial Solar Eclipse Party at Cranbrook on Saturday, October 14th from 11am to 2:30pm.

Admission to the Galileo exhibit is $8 for non-member adults and $6 for members. Children aged 2 to 12 are $5, while kids under 2 enter for free. General admission to the museum is $14 for adults and $10.50 for kids aged 2 to 12. Families can also consider a membership, which is $75 for a family or $95 for a household, allowing two guests per visit.
