Germany Coach Julian Nagelsmann Extends Contract Through 2026 World Cup

Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann has extended his contract by two years, taking him beyond the upcoming European Championship and through the 2026 World Cup. This news also puts an end to the possibility of Nagelsmann returning to Bayern Munich, who are currently searching for a new coach for next season. This decision came after they decided to part ways with Thomas Tuchel at the end of this season.

Nagelsmann was reportedly the front-runner for the position, but now Bayern will have to look elsewhere after two high-profile rejections. The German soccer federation announced on Friday that its supervisory board and shareholders have unanimously decided to keep Nagelsmann in charge of the national team after Euro 2024. This decision comes as Germany is set to host the tournament.

Nagelsmann, who is 36 years old, has brought a positive change to the German team following wins over France and the Netherlands after a recent overhaul of the squad. He was previously fired by Bayern as they opted to bring in Tuchel in March 2023. Unfortunately, Bayern failed to secure the Bundesliga title this season for the first time since 2012.

Nagelsmann expressed his gratitude for being able to continue as the coach of the national team, stating that it was a decision made from the heart. He feels honored to train the national team and work with the best players in the country.
