Harris Health Ben Taub Hospital in Houston will be distributing 2,000 gun locks to patients, visitors, and the general public as part of their efforts to promote firearm safety. The initiative, which is taking place in September to coincide with National Suicide Prevention Month, aims to encourage safe storage of firearms. The gun locks have been donated to the hospital by Project ChildSafe of the National Shooting Sports Foundation.
Ben Taub Hospital, recognized as a Level 1 trauma facility, handles approximately 6,200 trauma cases yearly. These cases include severe motor vehicle accidents, victims of crimes, and industrial accidents. Trauma is classified as either blunt or penetrating injuries, with both types being potentially life-threatening. The distribution of the gun locks is intended to contribute to the overall safety and well-being of the community.
