Ready Pac salad kits recalled by DOH

The Hawaii Department of Health’s Food and Drug Branch has announced a voluntary recall of four varieties of salad kits by Ready Pac Foods, Inc. due to potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination. These products were sold at Walmart and Costco in Hawaii.

The salad kits are being recalled because they contain cheese from Rizo Lopez Foods, which were recently recalled due to Listeria monocytogenes. No adverse effects have been reported as of Friday, but if consumed through food, Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, a serious and sometimes fatal infection that mainly affects pregnant women, newborns, older adults and people with weakened immune systems. It can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths in healthy people.

Symptoms may include fever, severe headache, muscle aches, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain or diarrhea and usually show up within several days of consuming the contaminated-food. However symptoms may develop up to two months later. Antibiotics are used to treat listeriosis. The FDB advises consumers to check the products listed below and dispose of them or return them for a refund.

Consumers who purchased recalled products may contact Ready Pac Foods Consumer Affairs at 1-800-800-7822 (7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m
