Final results from the May well 18 CIF Southern Section Person Sectionals prelims at Andulka Park Tennis Center: Claremont singles players Caleb Settles (Palomares League champion) and D.J. Brownlee (Palomares League runner-up) had been awarded byes in the 1st round.

In the second, Caleb bested Yucca Valley’s Ryder Hermansen (Desert Valley League champion), six-1, six-, prior to defeating Los Osos’ Ethan Lee (Baseline League champion), six-four, six-two, in the third. D.J. thrashed Corona Centennial’s Ishaan Gupta (Massive VIII League runner-up) in the second round, six-, six-1, then Los Osos’ Brandon Hsiung (Baseline League runner-up), six-, six-two, in the third.

The Wolfpack’s doubles group of Lance Lao and Mateen Ghafarshad (Palomares League champions) was also provided a bye in the 1st round. Lance and Mateen won six-, six-1 more than the Vista Del Lago doubles group of Tyler Cortez and Manreet Guraya (Inland Valley League champions), then swept Palm Desert’s Jack Thompson and Shaurya Mahajan (Desert Empire League champions) six-, six- in the third. All CHS players certified for the CIF Southern Section Person Championship tournament, held Tuesday and Wednesday at the Biszantz Household Tennis Center in Claremont. On Wednesday, Peninsula’s Sean Ferguson (Bay League champion) defeated D.J., six-three, six- in the semis.

The doubles group of Lance and Mateen had a bye in the 1st round Tuesday, then bested Murrieta Valley’s Southwestern League champions Aiden Hever and Owen Pearson, six-four, six-three in the second. They then capped the day by beating Peninsula doubles players Christopher Koeberle and Kyle Shigekawa (Bay League champions), three-six, 7-five, ten-four in the quarterfinals. On Wednesday Lance and Mateen fell six-three, six-three in the semifinals to eventual tournament champions Sanghyuk Im and James MacDonald, University High’s Pacific Coast champions. Boys and girls track and field

Final results from the May well 20 CIF Southern Section Masters meet at Moorpark: Denise Jie Yi Chen completed eighth in the three,200-meter race at ten:48.45. L’Mio Edwards took third in the 800 at two:09.82 and will advance to the CIF State Championships. The girls relay group of Denise, L’Mio, Isla Bulmer and Kaitlyn Smith won the 4×800 with a time of 9:07.84. The 4 are Claremont’s 1st-ever girls CIF SS Track and Field Masters Champions 4×800 relay group and will advance to the CIF-State Championships at Clovis. Final results from the May well 18 CIF Southern Section Person Sectionals prelims at Whittier Narrows Tennis Club: Webb singles player Morgan Qiu (San Joaquin League champion) bested West Covina’s Valle Vista League runner-up Johnny Su in a grueling 1st round match, six-three, four-six, 12-ten. He then took down Andrew Cisneros of Summit (Sunkist League runner-up), 7-five, six-two, in the second round. Diamond Bar’s Hacienda League champion Solon Chi Chit Au then ended Morgan’s run in the third round, six-1, six-.

The Gauls’ doubles group of Ryan Weigand and Larry Zhou (San Joaquin League champions) fell in the 1st round to Harvard-Westlake’s Colin Kennedy and Andrew Kurgan (Mission League runners-up), six-, six-1. Ben Thien-Ngern and David Liu (San Joaquin League runners-up) opened the 1st round by sweeping Edgewood’s Miramonte League champions Omar Millan and Sebastian Morada, six-, six-, then fell to Ethan Nguyen and Kayvon Kasravi of San Marino (Rio Hondo League runners-up), six-two, six-three.
