Hockey Canada Welcomes New Assistant Coach Steve Ott to 2024 IIHF World Championship Coaching Staff

Hockey Canada is excited to announce that Steve Ott, Assistant Coach for the Blues, will be joining the coaching staff for Team Canada at the 2024 IIHF World Championship. The tournament will take place from May 10-26 in Prague and Ostrava, Czechia.

Ott, a native of Summerside, PEI, will be making his international coaching debut at the upcoming championship. He has been an assistant coach with the Blues for seven seasons and played a key role in helping the team secure four playoff appearances and the 2019 Stanley Cup Championship. In addition to his experience as an assistant coach, Ott had an extensive playing career in the NHL with stints at multiple teams including the Blues, Detroit Red Wings, Dallas Stars, Buffalo Sabres, and Montréal Canadiens.

As head coach of Team Canada at the 2024 IIHF World Championship, Andre Tourigny brings a wealth of experience to lead the team to success. Tourigny was previously an assistant coach with Team Canada at both the 2018 and 2019 IIHF World Junior Championships where they won gold and silver respectively. With his extensive experience as both a player and coach on international stages, Tourigny will provide valuable guidance to Ott as he makes his coaching debut.

The tournament promises to be one of excitement and competitive play with Ott joining forces with Tourigny as well as assistants Dean Evason and Jay Woodcroft. The coaching staff is eagerly anticipating representing Canada on the international stage once again with their impressive skills and knowledge on ice.

Overall Ott’s appointment to this position speaks volumes about Hockey Canada’s commitment to building a strong team for this event while also giving him an opportunity to further develop his skills as a coach on an international level.
