Despite being defeated by Australia in the final match of the 2023 Cricket World Cup, India’s continued dominance in the sport is assured. With a population of over 1.4 billion people and significant financial contributions, India holds a large portion of cricket’s revenues and hosts one of the most profitable domestic competitions, the Indian Premier League (IPL). The recent sale of the IPL’s media rights for $6.2 billion further solidifies India’s financial stronghold in cricket.
India’s financial power puts them ahead of other countries like England and Australia, who are also part of the “big three” of the International Cricket Council (ICC). While their loss in the final may not have been what they hoped for, it does not diminish their influence on and off the pitch. In fact, India’s continued dominance in cricket is cemented both on and off the field.
