Iraqi Prime Minister Reviews Progress of Anbar Power Station Project Amid Energy Demand Boost

During his visit to Anbar governorate, Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani reviewed the status of electricity service throughout the governorate and followed up on the Akkas gas project. He also met with the executing company at the Anbar combined power station project to discuss progress and ensure speedy completion according to required specifications. Al-Sudani emphasized the importance of not delaying the project, especially since the government has provided all necessary requirements for its completion.

The Anbar power station project is a strategic initiative that began in 2013 but was halted for approximately 8 years due to ISIS terrorism in the region. Work resumed as part of the government’s efforts to remove obstacles and improve infrastructure in Iraq. The station is expected to have a capacity of 1640 megawatts, utilizing local natural gas from the Okaz gas field as fuel to reduce energy production costs and ensure a stable energy supply.

Currently, the completion rate of the project stands at 50%, with four gas units and two steam units being part of the station’s setup. This visit highlights the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure and energy capabilities in Iraq by investing in strategic initiatives such as this one.
