Is the Super Bowl More of a Marketing Spectacle Than a Sporting Event? Could Germany’s Bundesliga Bowl Adopt a Similar Formula?

Do you find yourself starting the week without rest because of the Super Bowl? The world’s biggest sporting event has become a must-watch, with some American football played between the commercial breaks.

The Super Bowl is a unique spectacle that doesn’t require any interest in sports to get excited. It could be a marketing asset and perhaps also a rough model for other popular sports in other countries. In Germany, only football would be an option, but what if the Bundesliga championship was decided in one game, and the banter before it was a tighter one-game plan?

Bundesliga Bowl 1 could take place in Wolfsburg, fresh from the desert of Lower Saxony, the German answer to Las Vegas. Taylor Swift could land in Hanover from her concert in Munich on the day of the match, then take the ICE via Berlin to WOB. Herbert Grönemeyer could croak the anthem before the game, although he probably wouldn’t do something like that. So more like Howard Carpendale.

During the commercial breaks, it would be even funnier in Germany than in America as spectators could throw yellow tennis balls onto the grass to bridge the gap.

Is American Football sustainable hype in Germany?
