Biden aims to negotiate a minimum six-week ceasefire in Gaza

During a joint press conference with King Abdullahin of Jordan at the White House, US President Joe Biden announced that he is working towards negotiating a ceasefire lasting at least six weeks in the Gaza Strip. This ceasefire will see the release of hostages, bringing much-needed relief to the region.

Biden emphasized the importance of protecting civilians, particularly those in Rafah, a town near the Egyptian border with up to one million Palestinians in the region. He called on Israel to halt its plans for a ground attack on Rafah and instead focus on finding a peaceful solution to the conflict.

Netanyahu, however, has ordered Israel’s armed forces to prepare for a ground attack on Rafah. This move has raised concerns among human rights groups and international leaders who are calling for an immediate end to hostilities and the protection of civilians.

The situation in Gaza has been tense for years, with ongoing clashes between Israel and Palestine leading to widespread destruction and displacement of civilians. The international community has been working tirelessly to find a resolution to this complex conflict, but so far, efforts have been largely unsuccessful.
