Kate Douglass Defends 200 IM Title with Determination

Kate Douglass has defended her 200 IM title at the World Championships with a dominant performance, finishing 1.5 seconds ahead of the competition. The American won every wall and had the fastest split in fly. She was second in her free split, but her lead over the other medal contenders was considerable.

Douglass’s impressive performance, setting a personal best, is part of a string of recent successes, including three bronze medals at the World Championships in Budapest in 2022 and numerous other medals in the previous summer. With this win, she showcases herself as a formidable competitor in the event.

Sydney Pickrem came in second place, while China’s Yu Yiting was third. Douglass’s time is a personal best, outperforming her 2:07.09 time from U.S. Nationals the previous summer. Yu put up a fight during the first 100 but in the end, Douglass maintained her dominant performance, with Pickrem and Yu securing silver and bronze, respectively. Anastasia Gorbenko dropped from third to fourth, and Marrit Steenbergen rose from eighth to fifth with the fastest time of 29.75 seconds.
