For the first time in history, Nickelodeon and CBS Sports will collaborate to present an alternate telecast of Super Bowl LVIII. The game, which pits the Kansas City Chiefs against the San Francisco 49ers, will be broadcast on Nickelodeon tonight. The parent company of both CBS Sports and Nickelodeon is Paramount Global.
The telecast will combine animation and graphics with the traditional game-day telecast. Popular characters from the cartoon SpongeBob SquarePants will join the telecast live, including Sandy Cheeks, voiced by Carolyn Lawrence, who is shown in promotional photos on the sidelines of a real-life football field.
SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Star will call the game alongside CBS Sports analyst Nate Burleson and play-by-play announcer Noah Eagle. Larry the Lobster will also provide live commentary.
Nickelodeon has been airing “NFL Slimetime” since 2021, a weekly show hosted by Burleson and child actor Dylan Gilmore. The duo will report live from Allegiant Stadium during the game.
If you are watching the game with kids, the Nickelodeon broadcast might be the perfect option for you as it combines fun animation with real-time football action.
