In a single day, Russia unleashes two large-scale bombings on Ukraine

On Monday morning, Kyiv experienced a sudden bombardment by the Russian Armed Forces deployed in Crimea. Several hypersonic ballistic missiles fired from the illegally annexed peninsula reached the capital, causing damage in three districts. Later in the afternoon, Russia launched ballistic missiles from the Black Sea targeting the cities of Odessa and Kremenchuk, as well as the province of Kirovograd, according to the Ukrainian Air Forces.

The speed at which the projectiles reached Kyiv, without anti-aircraft alarms being able to warn of danger, caused panic among citizens. This marked the third attack on Kyiv in five days and the fourth large-scale attack on multiple Ukrainian provinces. Russian and Ukrainian military analysts identified Zircon missiles as an innovative weapon used by Russia for its first time against Kyiv in February. The Ukrainian Air Force reported intercepting two of these missiles in the capital but at least five explosions were heard.

Ukraine faces a serious deficit in anti-aircraft ammunition leading to bursts of anti-aircraft machine gun fire in an attempt to shoot down these missiles. Ukrainian officials have stressed the need for more anti-aircraft defenses to protect cities and save lives. Damage was reported across multiple districts of Kyiv including destruction of a municipal administration headquarters and Academy of Decorative Arts and Design. In Odessa, at least two large explosions were reported near Sports Palace resulting in injuries and damage to civilian structures.

Russian President Vladimir Putin accused Ukrainian authorities following which Russian military intensified its bombings against Ukraine targets including power grids and military installations. In response, Ukrainian intelligence services launched bomb drone attacks on Russian oil refineries leading to disruptions in fuel production. These events have triggered retaliatory bombings by Russian army against Ukraine cities and military targets further escalating conflict between both sides with strategic attacks and counterattacks taking place daily.

The use of advanced weapons like hypersonic ballistic missiles has increased tension between Ukraine and Russia making it difficult for peace negotiations to take place effectively. As tensions continue to rise with each passing day, there is no clear end to this conflict yet with both sides continuing their strategic attacks hoping that they can gain an advantage over each other before diplomacy can be restored back into play again.
