Lions counter 49ers’ offer sheet for Brock Wright

The Lions have announced that they will be matching the restricted free agent offer sheet signed by tight end Brock Wright with the 49ers. This decision comes after Wright received a three-year deal worth $12 million, with $6 million guaranteed. The Lions had until Wednesday to decide whether or not to match the offer, but ultimately chose to keep Wright on their roster rather than allowing him to leave for their NFC Championship Game opponents.

Wright has played in 41 games for the Lions over the last three seasons and has accumulated 43 catches for 424 yards and seven touchdowns. By matching the offer, Wright will not have to adjust to a new offensive scheme ahead of the 2024 season. He will continue to team up with Sam LaPorta as the top tight ends in Tennessee.

The deal represents a significant increase from the Lions’ original restricted free agent tender of $2.985 million, demonstrating their commitment to retaining key players on their roster. With Wright’s return, the Lions look set to continue their success in the upcoming season, with LaPorta providing valuable support as they pursue their championship dreams.
