In Lynchburg, Centra Health has announced that Richard Tugman will be taking on the role of interim president and CEO. Tugman has previously served as the CEO of Piedmont Community Health Plan since 2016 and was also Centra’s interim CEO in 2021. Thomas Nygaard, M.D., Chair of Centra’s Board of Directors, expressed gratitude to Amy Carrier for her contributions to the organization and wished her success in her future endeavors.
According to Nygaard, Tugman’s deep understanding of Centra and its people makes him well-suited to lead the organization during this transition period while a national search for a permanent CEO is conducted. The announcement was made on Thursday, with a transition committee appointed to advise Tugman in his new role.
Centra Health is a subsidiary of Centra, and Tugman’s prior experience with the organization gives the board confidence that he will effectively lead Centra during this time. The board looks forward to working with Tugman as they search for a new, permanent CEO to lead the organization in the future.
