Collaboration Between Mercury Systems and Lockheed Martin in Computing Technology

Lockheed Martin has partnered with Mercury Systems to produce cutting-edge computing technologies at its facility in Geneva, Switzerland. This collaboration is a result of the offset program between Lockheed and the Swiss government after acquiring F-35 II stealth fighter jets. The Swiss Federal Office for Defence Procurement will provide critical security technologies like software-defined radio capabilities and cryptology to support production.

“We are thrilled to be joining forces with Mercury Systems to bring advanced defense technologies manufacturing to Switzerland,” said Paul Tanner, Vice President and General Manager of Mercury International. “These agreements will enhance the Mercury Processing Platform and enable us to introduce new, cutting-edge capabilities to the European market.”

As part of its modernization initiatives, Switzerland has invested heavily in national defense, with a budget of 2.1 billion euros ($2.5 billion) in 2021. The country’s military is focusing on acquiring sophisticated capabilities such as surveillance drones and kamikaze drones. In addition, Switzerland has acquired Lockheed’s Patriot Advanced Capability-3 missile systems.

Despite facing a 1.4 percent budget cut in all other government departments, the military proposed an increased defense budget of 25.8 billion francs ($28.7 billion) last year. This increase is aimed at addressing security threats arising from the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian war.
