Mets DFA Joey Wendle and bring Mark Vientos back in flurry of roster changes

The New York Mets made several roster moves before their game against the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday. Mark Vientos was recalled from Triple-A to split time at third base with Brett Baty, while Joey Wendle was designated for assignment due to his struggles on both defense and offense. Wendle, who had signed a one-year deal this offseason, was let go in hopes of giving Vientos a chance to make an impact at the major league level. Vientos had a brief but successful appearance earlier in the season, including a walk-off home run in one of his games.

In addition to these roster changes, Joey Lucchesi has been called up to start against the Phillies in place of Adrian Houser, who is unavailable after pitching in relief on Tuesday. Jose Butto, who had performed well in his first few big-league appearances, was sent back to Syracuse after pitching five innings on Tuesday. Butto is expected to rejoin the team later in the season. Grant Hartwig has been added to the roster to help the depleted Mets bullpen, while Yohan Ramirez has been designated for assignment since Hartwig has pitched effectively in the minors despite some struggles in his 30 major league appearances with a 4.93 ERA and 1.35 WHIP.
