Amanda Flann started her own direct-to-consumer, porch-pickup business in June 2022. She had begun growing her own sourdough starter in January of that same year and was determined to make sure that baking became a restful activity for her. She wanted to start her own business so she could stay home with her daughter Scottie, who is always by her side as she bakes.
Flann founded As Much As You Knead, which she describes as a challenging season of life. She enjoys the extroverted aspect of being a people person and started offering sourdough-making classes in December 2022. For Mother’s Day last year, Flann offered pre-painted bread decorated with flowers as a unique gift.
Now, Flann and her daughter are preparing to hold a “Mommy & Me Sourdough Painting” class together on Saturday, May 11 at Poly’s Place Coffee from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The cost is $45 per person and participants will receive a fresh-baked sourdough loaf to decorate with food-safe paint and markers. Flann believes that this class is a special opportunity for her and her daughter to work together and share the joy of baking with others.
