Meet Alexander Stubb, the recently elected president of Finland who previously served as prime minister

Alexander Stubb, a seasoned politician and former Prime Minister of Finland, has been elected as the new President of the country. He won the run-off against his independent opponent, Pekka Haavisto, with 51.7% of the vote. Stubb has had an illustrious career in politics, serving as Prime Minister and leader of the National Conservative Party. In recent years, he has directed the European University Institute in Florence and is a renowned researcher in political science.

As a Foreign Minister and Premier, Stubb has previously supported Finland’s membership in NATO. He is also deeply passionate about international relations and believes that one of his most important tasks as President will be to work on creating an international system based on rules. Additionally, he is an avid sportsman who has participated in grueling races like the “iron man.”

As a father of two children with a British lawyer wife, Stubb strongly believes in producing security rather than just consuming it. Upon announcing his candidacy for President, he stated that when his country called him, he would go there without hesitation. He was encouraged to return to Finnish politics by his long-time supporters at the National Conservative Party, which is currently part of the government under Prime Minister Petteri Orpo.

Stubb’s passion for his country and its role in the international community drives him to make a significant impact as President. He looks forward to continuing his work towards creating a stable and secure future for Finland and its citizens.
