New Western Economy Beat Assigned to Experienced Journalist Harriet Torry; Distinguished Business Journalist Chris Roush Appointed as Dean of Journalism School.

WSJ Reporter Torry to Focus on Western U.S. Economy

Harriet Torry, a distinguished journalist with 14 years of experience at the Wall Street Journal, has been appointed to cover the Western U.S. economy for the paper. She will be based in Houston, having previously reported on the U.S. economy with a focus on consumers from the Washington D.C. bureau. In addition to her expertise in covering the Federal Reserve, Torry brings a wealth of knowledge to her new role, having previously worked at Deutsche Welle and covered the German government and economy during the eurozone sovereign debt crisis.

Chris Roush, now Dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut, has had an illustrious career in business journalism. He has held prestigious titles such as Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill and has worked for respected news organizations such as Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune, and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. Roush is also an accomplished author, known for writing “Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication,” as well as “Thinking Things Over,” a detailed biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.”
