This column is an excerpt from Rep. Levin’s speech on the Home floor on Thursday.

Home Republicans are holding our economy hostage and organizing to slash billions of dollars from veterans’ solutions and rewards in return for keeping the complete faith and credit of the United States.

Republicans are delivering a a single-two punch to veterans.

Very first, their debt legislation would slash $30 billion dollars from veterans’ solutions, remove housing vouchers for 50,000 homeless veterans, and reduce 81,000 jobs from the Veterans Overall health Administration.

They can say what ever they want but this is what they voted for.

Second, the Republicans just released a bill to gut the overall health care funding we promised to toxic-exposed veterans in the Pact Act.

How about rather of cuts to veterans’ solutions and rewards, we lower our deficit by ending tax loopholes for the ultrawealthy and by guaranteeing the biggest corporations spend their fair share.

Home Democrats are united in opposition to Republicans’ veterans funding cuts, and we will not go back on the progress we’ve created.

So as we all head into this Memorial Day weekend, we will have to do improved.

We will have to not default on our debts. And let’s preserve our promises to our veterans.
