Pittsburgh residents on Forbes’ 2024 list of the world’s billionaires

Forbes has released its annual list of the world’s billionaires, and it includes several individuals with ties to Pittsburgh. The 2024 list features 2,781 billionaires with a combined net worth of $14.2 trillion. Forbes calculated each person’s wealth using stock prices and exchange rates from March 8, 2024.

Among those who made it to the list are three individuals with strong connections to the Steel City: Maggie Hardy, Mark Cuban, and David Tepper. Additionally, Thomas Tull and Ron Burkle, both with ties to Pittsburgh, also made the cut.

David Tepper, known as one of the greatest hedge fund managers of his generation, ranked No. 94 with a net worth of $20.6 billion. He founded Appaloosa Management in 1993 and owns the Carolina Panthers while having roots in Pittsburgh’s Stanton Heights neighborhood. Mark Cuban, with a net worth of $5.4 billion, came in at No. 563. Cuban grew up in Mt Lebanon and recently sold his majority stake in the Dallas Mavericks but attended the University of Pittsburgh. Maggie Hardy holds a net worth of $4.1 billion and is the owner and CEO of 84 Lumber; she took over from her father Joe Hardy who founded the company that passed away at age 100 years old in January 2023 at spot No.775 on the list
