President Joe Biden signed a law on Wednesday that was approved by the Senate the day before. This law provides military aid to Ukraine, Israel, and the Indo-Pacific region, including Taiwan. It also requires the Chinese company ByteDance to sell the social network TikTok within a year to prevent its banning in the country. The aid package includes $60 billion for Ukraine and $26.4 billion for Israel.
Biden stated that this was a good day for the United States, Europe, and world peace. Shortly after signing the law, Biden announced that the US would begin sending air defense ammunition, artillery for rocket systems, and armored vehicles to Ukraine. Secretary of State Antony Blinken confirmed the shipment of the first weapons package valued at $1 billion, which includes air defense missiles, armored vehicles, and anti-tank weapons.
In response to the ultimatum to sell TikTok, China reiterated its previous stance, accusing the US of intimidation tactics. TikTok’s CEO, Shou Zi Chew, stated in a video that the company would appeal the US government’s measure and was confident of a favorable outcome. The forum content includes discussions about increasing social media presence, buying Instagram and TikTok likes
