Botswana proposes sending 20,000 elephants to Germany to regulate population through hunting

The German Ministry of Environment has announced stricter restrictions on the import of hunting trophies into the country. In response to this, Botswana President Mokgweetsi Masisi proposed sending 20,000 elephants to Germany. He believes that efforts to preserve wild animals only lead to impoverishment of Botswanans and an increase in the number of elephants. The Botswana president also stated that hunting helps keep the elephant population under control.

President Masisi urged the Germans to live with animals like Botswana does. Botswana is home to over 130,000 elephants, making it the third country in the world with the most elephants. The country has previously donated elephants to Angola and offered hundreds of elephants to Mozambique to help preserve their declining population. President Masisi expressed a genuine desire to gift elephants to Germany, emphasizing that he was serious and would not accept no as an answer.
