Remembering Boris Pergamenschikow: A Celebration of a Music Teacher’s Enduring Impact

Boris Pergamenschikow was a beloved teacher and mentor who left a lasting impact on the music world. His memory is still strong, 20 years after his death on April 30, 2004. A group of musicians gathered at a kitchen table in Prenzlauer Berg to reminisce about their time with him and the impact he had on their lives.

Pergamenschikow emigrated from Russia to Germany in 1977 and eventually became a professor at the Hanns Eisler University in Berlin. His teaching style was unique, focusing on individual students and their development as musicians. One of his students, Claudio Bohorquez, remembers him fondly and continues his legacy as a professor at the Eisler University.

Another musician influenced by Pergamenschikow was Christian Tetzlaff, who recalls his mentor’s dedication to music and his students. Pergamenschikow was known for his attention to detail and willingness to embrace new ideas. His impact on the musical community is still felt to this day.

Andrea von Bernstorff, a close friend of Pergamenschikow, remembers him as an intellectual and a source of inspiration. She initiated the Boris Pergamenschikow Prize for contemporary chamber music and organized the memorial concert in his honor. Former students and friends of Pergamenschikow will come together to celebrate his life and legacy on April 30th at Konzerthaus am Gendarmenmarkt. The concert will feature compositions by various composers, including pieces by Pergamenschikow’s friends Mauricio Kagel and Krzysztof Penderecki. Performers will include Pergamenschikow’s students and artistic companions. The evening promises to be a heartfelt tribute to a beloved teacher who left an indelible mark on the music world.

As we remember Boris Pergamenschikow’s legacy let us reflect on how he inspired others through music, dedication, humor and curiosity towards life which made him one of the most influential figures in modern music education.

In conclusion, Boris Pergamenschikow’s memory continues to live on even after 20 years since his passing away in 2004 through stories shared by those who knew him personally or were influenced by him professionally or musically speaking.
