Rising Diagnoses of Autism Spectrum Disorder in Israel: A Rapid Increase among Jewish Boys and Girls

Statistics from Israel’s Central Social Security Center reveal that 22 out of every thousand children are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder.

According to the Central Bureau of Statistics, in 2022 there were 57,233 people living in Israel diagnosed on the autism spectrum. That is, 5.9 people for every 1,000 of the population (one in 167). This represents an increase from 4.5 children per thousand among those born in 2000 to 22.2 children per thousand among those born in 2018. Among Jewish boys, the rate of diagnosis rose from 10 per thousand among those born in 2000 to 38 per thousand among those born in 2018.
