Science on Sol 2075: Conducting Methane Experiment and Additional Science Activities for Atmospheric Monitoring and Geological Analysis

On Sol 2075, our primary focus will be on conducting a methane experiment using our SAM instrument to analyze an atmospheric sample. However, we have also allocated 45 minutes of extra time for additional science activities. This time has been divided between our Environmental (ENV) and Geologic (GEO) theme groups.

The ENV group will be busy conducting various atmospheric monitoring tasks to evaluate dust opacity using Navcam and Mastcam. They will capture line-of-sight images and measure tau to gain a better understanding of the current atmospheric conditions. Additionally, ENV will search for dust devils by taking a series of images with Navcam and monitoring the deck with Mastcam.

On the other hand, the GEO group has planned a ChemCam LIBS observation on the nodular target known as “Little Marais.” This target was previously analyzed on Sol 2074, and this additional observation will help us gain a better understanding of its chemistry. ChemCam will also be taking an RMI image of the Duluth drill hole, which will aid in our planning for future drill hole targeting activities over the weekend.
