Sheffield’s Snooker Stadium Faces Renewal of Contract: Player O’Sullivan Suggests Major Upgrades

The Crucible, home to snooker’s premier event since 1977, is facing a renewal of its contract in 2027. This has sparked speculation about the possibility of the event being moved elsewhere. However, Matchroom Sport’s president, Barry Hearn, believes that Sheffield Council must make improvements to the venue in order to keep the World Championship in Sheffield.

Hearn mentioned that some changes were made for the 2024 tournament, but he believes further upgrades are necessary to enhance the experience for players. Ronnie O’Sullivan shared his thoughts on potential improvements and expressed his opinion that the venue is a bit dated and could benefit from updates and better facilities for players. He suggested the inclusion of relaxation rooms, more practice tables, showers, and a modern dressing room.

O’Sullivan praised the recent addition of courtesy cars for players, making their experience more comfortable. Despite acknowledging the recent improvements, O’Sullivan emphasized the need for further enhancements to cater to the players’ needs. He highlighted the importance of creating a player-friendly environment and suggested a complete redesign of the venue with the help of an interior designer or architect to make it bigger, better, and more up-to-date.
