On May 8, four workers from the Cho Lon Electricity Company sustained severe burns while working on repairing electricity at an underground cable line in District 8. The workers suffered burns as a result of an electrical short circuit, fire, and explosion.
Emergency doctors attempted to treat the patients at Cho Ray Hospital, but the most severely injured patient was a 28-year-old male with 2nd and 3rd degree burns covering 80% of his body. The patient had burns on his head, chest, abdomen, limbs, and eyes. Dr. Ngo Duc Hiep, Head of the Department of Plastic Surgery at Cho Ray Hospital reported that the prognosis for this patient was still difficult due to the extent of his burns.
The other three patients included a 46-year-old man with burns on his head and face, a 37-year-old man with burns on his ear and hands, and a 37-year-old with burns on his hand and ankle. They were treated for pain relief and tetanus prevention before being discharged from the hospital.
