SNCF: Two Unions Reach Wage Agreement, Four Still Negotiating

Nov 20, 2023

The railway group SNCF has proposed a 4.6% salary increase on average for its employees in 2024, including a 1.8% general increase and a commitment to raise low wages so that none of them falls below the minimum wage of 1.1 euros. The CFDT-Cheminots and Unsa-Ferroviaire have both announced their intention to sign the agreement, with the latter stating that it would also sign it. However, SUD-Rail and CGT-Cheminots are opposed to the agreement, with SUD-Rail calling for reopened negotiations and CGT-Cheminots describing the management’s proposals as “indecent and contemptuous.” The unions have until November 22 to sign the agreement, but without a majority, the SNCF cannot ensure that it will be applied in its entirety. Last year, only the CFDT-Cheminots signed the agreement on 2023 salaries, but despite the lack of a majority, the SNCF applied the planned measures.
