Temporary Closure of Spot Coffee on East Ave. Due to Health Code Violations

Spot Coffee, a popular coffee shop located on East Avenue in Rochester, has been temporarily closed by the Monroe County Health Dept. The establishment was ordered to shut down and cease all food operations following an order issued on Feb. 9, which was posted on the door of the coffee shop over the weekend. According to a statement from Peter Kervin, District Operations Manager for Spot Coffee, the company is taking the recent reports very seriously and is committed to addressing the issue and rectifying it.

Spot Coffee has been found to have several health code violations related to food from an “unapproved source,” spoiled or adulterated on premises, as well as issues such as food not being protected from potential sources of contamination and not having effective measures to control rodents and insects from entering the restaurant. In response, Spot Coffee immediately took action by implementing thorough cleaning and sanitation procedures, working with pest control services and cooperating with the county health department.

The company is committed to ensuring that Spot Rochester meets and exceeds all health and safety standards. While there was no immediate word on when Spot will reopen, Kervin stated that they appreciate the community’s understanding and patience as they work to resolve this matter.
