Pat Kelsey from CofC could potentially become Louisville’s next coach | Sports

Earl Grant, who left College of Charleston to become the basketball coach at Boston College in 2021, has set a precedent for Louisville’s next coach. Kenny Payne was fired by the Cardinals following a disappointing season with only eight wins, and now reports suggest that Pat Kelsey may be taking over as the new coach.

Kelsey led College of Charleston to consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances and has compiled an impressive 74-27 overall record in just two seasons. He recently signed a lucrative five-year contract extension worth $1 million in annual pay running through the 2028 season, making him the highest-paid coach in the CAA.

Several key players from the Cougars have entered the transfer portal amidst the coaching change, including Ante Brzovic, Ben Burnham, Jordan Crawford, Khalil London, and Evan Kilminster. Kelsey’s adaptability to the evolving college sports landscape has set him apart as he embraces elements like the transfer portal and name, image, and likeness.

If Kelsey makes the transition to Louisville, he would be following in Grant’s footsteps and continuing his success at Boston College after seven seasons at College of Charleston.
